The Perfect Christmas Gift Idea: Handmade Leather Journal
Have you thought about buying gifts for Christmas yet?
I recently stumbled upon this amazing artistic leather journal, which I think could be a perfect present for anyone – him, her, adult or young – anyone who could appreciate handmade quality and impeccable craftsmanship…
In today’s post I will share my honest and detailed review about this beautiful product.
The journal comes beautifully packaged in this pretty cloth bag with the Rustic Town logo. You instantly get the feeling of holding something artistic and one-of-a-kind.
The cover is made of genuine leather that has a beautiful vintage look. I like that it is very soft to touch and probably with time and use it gets even softer. The journal has a very romantic feel and I imagine Hemingway used something similar when writing his famous novels.
Despite its rustic feel, the stitching and other little details show a great quality and love for craftsmanship.
The notebook itself is replaceable and quite thick (200 pages counting both sides). I imagine I won’t need to order a new one for at least 1 year. The size is very handy (Length 6.5″, Width 1″, Height 8″) – it will perfectly fit almost any bag and won’t be too massive to carry around.
The pages are very soft, yet scabrous – I had a feeling that they are inviting you to start writing or drawing something on them.
Did you know about the therapeutic effect of Journal writing? It is actually scientifically proven that reflective writing is beneficial for our mental, emotional and physical health. Although diaries were popular for centuries, it is only in the XX century (in 1960s to be more specific), Dr Ira Progoff revealed and proofed the therapeutical effects of journal writing. He created his Intensive journal method and used it with his clients for many years.
Journal writing has not only healing effects, it helps in many creative jobs to develop ideas and come up with new solutions. I remember when I was studying interior design at KLC, as part of our program we were asked to write our Personal Reflective Journal, where we would put anything that inspires us, our development on the projects, ideas and observations. Since then it became a habit for me and I actually can’t work properly without always having a little notebook with me.
Mind-mapping is probably one of my favourite tools – I use it to come up with ideas for my projects, organise my plans and strategies and even creating to-do lists. In this sense, the leather journal from Rustic town is just perfect – the pages don’t have any lining, allowing your thoughts to run freely across the paper. I personally think that all creative individuals should use unlined paper for their journaling. Lines in my understanding are sort of limits that force you to structure everything and hence, block your creativity and experimental approach.
So, right when I was getting ready to come up with some creative ideas and extraordinary inventions, guess who came to distract me?
I actually love how Chipi and the journal have almost the same color. As an interior designer I obtained this strange habit that everything should be matching in the house.
