5 Ways to Remodel Your Kitchen
We’ve all been there – checking out a Better Homes and Garden magazine, pining after that illustrious kitchen, that always has the perfect lighting glowing in the background. A kitchen like the ones in the magazines would make you feel like you could cook a five-star meal (on a two-star budget). Then… you think back to your own, very normal looking kitchen with dismay.
Fear not! Little improvements can go a long way to making an average kitchen look divine. A good-looking kitchen can make or break the aesthetic of your whole home.
Here are some easy ways you can take your existing kitchen from drab to amazing.
Upgrade Those Faucets
The easiest way to get a more modern look in your kitchen is to update any dingy faucets and knobs. It’s easy to tell when the faucets have been there since the house was built (15-20 years ago…? We won’t tell.) Luckily, you don’t have to live with squeaky, leaky faucets forever. This is an incredibly easy fix! There are dozens of kitchen faucet brands online. For example, check out a Kohler faucets review to get an idea of how their style of faucets looks, and see if it will fit with your vision.
Paint Your Cabinets
Chances are, if you’re seriously thinking about remodeling your kitchen, things have already gone downhill. Paint has probably been chipped off, knobs have become discolored… it happens. Instead of upheaving your whole kitchen, however, consider simply repainting your cabinets with a bright color! If you want more light in the room, consider going for a light color, like white, to really freshen the place up. White is a great shade versatile shade that can work for a chic, classy look, or a rustic, homey look.
Repaint Countertops
“Redoing countertops” may sound like a daunting, expensive, and arduous task, but it definitely doesn’t have to be. You can easily work with what you already have by simply using a countertop refinishing kit. There’s no need to remove or replace your existing countertops! Refinishing kits make your counters look so glossy and gorgeous, you’ll forget they’re not actually granite. This opens you up to get whatever color countertops you’ve always wanted!
Create a Nook
If you’re lucky enough to have windows in your kitchen area, put them to good use! Find a small bench or table to put in that corner and decorate it up with big, fluffy pillows and blankets. This will instantly upgrade your kitchen from “home” status to “chic, hipster coffee-shop” status. Then, you won’t even want to leave your house to get a nice cup of coffee!
Consider the Space
Think about your kitchen space: is it too open, or too closed off? If your kitchen is more of an open plan with a ton of space in the middle that you’re looking to fill, consider adding a kitchen island in the middle. An island is great for several reasons: beautiful statement piece, more cooking/serving area to move around on, additional seating for guests, great morning coffee nook.
However, if your kitchen is feeling rather cramped, go for the opposite: open the space up! Open shelves instead of cabinets create a breath of fresh air in your kitchen, because all of those excess doors and wood now gone! This is a very modern, rustic, urban look, and a great way to expose your lovely dinnerware that almost never gets seen.
Little improvements such as these can do wonders to your existing room, without breaking the budget, or putting the kitchen out of commission for weeks. Depending on how seriously you want to remodel everything, just a few little updates here and there can make all the difference in giving your kitchen a more updated look. Don’t be afraid to go for something new and modern, like open shelves, or a unique countertop color!
