New Versace Home Collection at Milan Design Week
Sasha Bikkoff, the famous New York designer, talks about this collaboration with Versace as a dream come true. She grew up surrounded by clothes from Versace, which her mother and grandmother loved to wear. Having received an offer to take part in the preparation of the Versace Home collection, she remembered the patterns and colors that surrounded her in her childhood and decided that it would be nice to combine the fashion of the 80s and 90s with modern things for the house.
The new Versace Home collection consists of five parts (Pop Medusa, Medusa, Rhapsody, Logomania, and Jungle). It was presented in the form of a fantastic installation in the courtyard Versace Palazzo on Via Gesù.
The bedroom with the leather-covered bed, the dining room, and the living room were placed on neon islands and were surrounded by pink and blue clouds. Three rotating star-shaped platforms became pedestals for sculptured plastic chairs with a Medusa bas-relief on the back of the backrest.
The huge carpet unites all parts of the installation. Sasha Bikkoff designed it under the impression of the 1994 Versace autumn-winter collection show, filmed by Richard Avedon. The designer hopes that the carpet, in return, will inspire the creators of clothing.
Indeed an example of such a cycle of things already exists: Via Gesù shows two two-meter Versace shirts, created by the artist Andy Dixon. After visiting his ‘Look at This Stuff Isn’t It Neat’ show in New York, they arrived to Milan to show the inspiring power of Versace images.
We had a chance to look at the whole Versace Pallazzo with older collections, which was very interesting as well:
