Selecting Trees for Your Yard
Trees are amazing; they withstand the worst of what Mother Nature throws at them; flowering beautifully year after year and many of them can live to be hundreds of years old.
Even more impressive is the fact that trees can add value to your home; that’s why it is so important to select the right trees for your yard.
Of course not all trees are good. When they get too old or diseased you need to contact an expert tree removal company and take prompt action to save them or remove them.
There are several things to consider when selecting trees for your yard:
Time To Grow
You need to consider why you want a tree. Some trees take years to rise to several feet while others will tower over your house in the same amount of time.
You need to consider how long the tree will take to grow; this will help you to establish whether you buy a seedling or a tree that is already several years old.
Your tree can provide you with shade and a place to build the tree house; but you’ll need to plant a grown one and make sure it is well established before you start building in it.
Flowering
Some trees offer a beautiful coverage of blossom; which will then be deposited across your yard. Others, such as Agonis, Gordonia, Magnolia and Juniperus stay evergreen throughout the year.
If you’re looking for privacy then an evergreen is going to help you out throughout the year; although it may not have the same depth of color in the spring as some other trees will.
Native Variety
A native tree can look stunning as a feature in your home. There are actually a surprising number to choose from.
Native trees look fabulous but should also be easier to grow; they already flourish in the country.
Number Of Trees
It is also important to consider whether you want to plant one tree, a line of trees or an entire orchard.
Here are a few excellent choices for you to consider:
- The Eucalyptus – Also known as the silver princess has beautiful silver foliage interspersed with large pink flowers. This is a great stand alone feature tree.
- The Acer Palmatum – This one will grow to 6 meters tall I just a few years. It is green throughout the spring and summer while the leaves turn to a fiery red in the fall.
- The Fraxinus Griffithii – if you’re not sure about the level of maintenance you’ll be able to give your tree then this may be the one for you. It thrives in most conditions; even with little water. The green leaves are shiny silver underneath and create a beautiful effect in your yard.
- The Syzygium – This is the one you need if you wish to create a hedge for privacy. The foliage is a deep green and looks stunning throughout the year.
