Cool DIY Projects You Can Do Outdoors this Summer
Whether you’re a DIY master or a wannabe green-fingered pro, there are always plenty of projects for you to get stuck into in the garden.
However, if you’re looking for something a little different to do this year (beyond the usual building sheds, erecting fences and painting playhouses) we’ve put together 3 cools ideas that’ll take your outdoor projects to the next level.
To get started, all you’ll need are a few DIY essentials like screwdrivers, nuts and bolts, a drill and your materials – plus a little bit of patience!
Create Your Own Pergola
If you want to create a stunning outdoor seating space but don’t want to spend a fortune, you could have a go at constructing your own pergola. Creating strong supports that are either attached to the side of a building or securely fixed into the ground, you can make it really simple and rustic.
Just place a few pieces of wood over the supports and use climbing plants to create shelter – or use some roofing materials if you’re feeling adventurous (some reclaimed tiles would look wonderful over a larger pergola).
Finish with some exquisite fairy lights and even a candelabra for added impact.
Add Mirrors for More Depth
Is your garden limited on space? Or do you want to create more intrigue and magic within a certain area of it?
Then why not try adding mirrors?
If you can, source some old doors or pieces of timber for your mirror frames and some plain mirrors (or even old ones that you’ve cast aside). Create some bold, rustic frames for the mirror, painting if necessary.
Then, get creative with where you’re hanging these mirrors. Add them to your fence, walls and even trees to really add impact to your garden. The reflection these create will instantly add depth and another dimension to your garden. And you could even bring in extra lighting and candles to add to the mystical theme you’ve created.
Build an Outdoor Sofa Using Old Pallets
Should your DIY skills be second to none, you may want to turn your hand to making your own furniture. And what better than an old pallet that’s been thrown on the ‘to burn’ pile?
The number of pallets you will need will depend on how large you want the sofa to be. However, you can be as creative as you want with the style. Start by putting together the basic shape of the sofa then let your imagination run wild. For example, you could use different lengths of wood to create the back for an even more eclectic feel. Just finish with some cushions and throws to make it extra comfy and to soften the edges.
The best thing about creating furniture from these types of materials is that they’re supposed to look rustic – so even if the piece doesn’t boast a lot of finesse, this simply adds to its charm and character.
Overall, to give your garden a lift this summer, all it takes is a little bit of imagination, some basic materials and a few hours of hard work – then, you’ll be able to put your feet up and admire all your handy work (which will also be the envy of all your neighbors).
