During a busy working week it’s likely you’re going to spend more time at your office than at your home. The design of a workplace has a huge impact on its employees, from how happy they are, to how much work they get done. So when it comes to designing an office, why not try and bring some home comforts into your place of work?

Seating

Let’s start with what should be the most comfortable part of the office – where you sit down. Even though people are encouraged to get up and move around throughout the working day, there are those times when you don’t seem to be able to get away from your desk. A comfortable chair is an absolute must. Chairs which offer back support may be slightly more expensive, but your body will thank you later. Also if your workplace has a seating area for guests, you want to make sure that’s welcoming as possible. Consider throwing in different textures, even if it’s just a couple of extra cushions, to make it look more inviting.

Lighting

Natural lighting and lots of windows are the ideals for an office. However, it may not be possible for you to get to control the number of windows or where they are in the room. The chances are you’re working with what you’ve been given. Don’t worry, there are still plenty of other ways to bring more light into the room: a pale colour scheme, reflective surfaces to bounce the light, and a particularly effective option is desk lamps. That way people can control their own lighting.

Partitions

According to Forbes the best offices don’t stick to one kind of floor plan; they incorporate several styles into one. With the use of partitions, such as those provided by CCF, you can do just that. You get the best of both worlds: an open layout for everyone to work in, but also you can have private and noticeable team areas. You can create the exact kinds of areas you and your colleagues need.

Books

A renowned interior designer told GQ that books can be used as a design tool. If you opt for a neutral scheme in the office, books can add a splash of colour. This can be also be helpful if there isn’t space to hang artwork, but you still want a feature the eye is drawn to. The books don’t all have to be related to your line of work either. Having some books people could pick up and read on their lunch break is a thoughtful touch.

Plants

Why not make your working environment slightly greener? A few potted plants here and there can really liven up an office. They can be used simply to add more colour into the room. Another big bonus with plants is they can help clear the air, creating comfier conditions for everyone.
