9 Ingredients Of The Ideal Bedroom
Creating a bedroom of your dreams is possible even without a help of a professional interior designer. In today’s post, I want to share several secrets of how to make this room comfortable, functional and restful.
-
Comfortable bed
The central element of any bedroom is the bed and it must be flawless. First of all, decide on its size: the standard length of the mattress is 200 cm. The optimal width of the double bed is 160 cm: this is enough to feel comfortable, however many of my clients request 180 and even 200cm (why not, if space allows?) – this depends a lot on your sleeping patterns.
Do not forget about a good mattress! Some great selections are available here – https://restrightmattress.com.
-
Ambient light
When we start to decorate a bedroom we tend to focus on general lighting and often neglect task and ambient lighting. However, this is one of the crucial elements for creating relaxing and comfortable ambiance. Think of adding beautiful table lamps, pendant lights on each side of the bed or wall sconces.
-
Soothing colour
What is the most important thing in a bedroom? That’s right – an atmosphere of ultimate relaxation. Tranquil, subtle colour palette will help to calm your mind and prepare your body for rest. Usually, in my designs, I prefer to opt for soft pastels, saturated blues and greens, or neutral earth or grey tones.
-
Sleek furnishings
Furniture with an excessive amount of decorative details looks too heavy and overwhelming in a bedroom. For creating a quiet and relaxing atmosphere it is better to choose minimalistic designs, light colours, and smooth surfaces.
-
More Reflections
Adding mirrors to the interior of your bedroom will make it feel bigger and lighter. A good solution is placing mirrors on both sides of the bed – if combined with beautiful pendant lights this will also create whimsical, charming effect.
-
Quality bed linen
Pay special attention to the choice of bed linen. Remember, it should be combined in style and color with the interior of your bedroom so you will create additional harmony and coziness.
-
Storage systems
Usual furniture set for a bedroom includes one wardrobe, a chest of drawers and two bedside tables. You can provide additional storage by placing retractable containers under the bed and hanging hooks behind the door.
-
Unobtrusive decor
The bedroom is not the place where it is necessary to give vent to courageous design experiments. Do not turn it into a national gallery or photo exhibition. Limit wall decor to one or two large paintings or beautiful photography.
-
A place for reading
No one is going to challenge the main role of a bed in a bedroom. But adding a cozy nook for reading will make this room even cozier. Elegant armchair, a floor lamp, a fluffy blanket and a foot rest will complete the look of the ideal bedroom.
