Foods You Should Serve at Your Child’s Next Birthday Party
A lot of parents are struggling financially right now. You shouldn’t need to put yourself under more pressure by spending too much on birthday parties. If you can’t afford to take their friends anywhere special it’s perfectly okay.
You can throw a cheap party at home, but you will have to provide all the food. If you’ve never done it before you might not know what to cook. We’ll take a look at some of the most popular foods kids like to see at parties.
1. Potato Salad
If you try to give children most salads they’ll look at you like you’re crazy. Potato salad is usually the only exception. Just make sure it’s full of whole egg mayonnaise to enhance the taste. You can also throw in a selection of healthy veggies.
2. Pizza Puffs
You can’t have a birthday party without pizza being involved in some way. A big group of kids will love to pick at pizza puffs, so make sure they’re not all the same kind. Due to the fact it’s so tasty, they’ll appreciate regular pizza slices too.
3. Veggie Dips
It’s not easy getting children to eat vegetables, especially at a party with cake. Luckily, they love dipping food into stuff. I don’t think they’ll mind if you stick to carrots. Cucumber yogurt and peanut butter are popular dips.
4. Mac and Cheese
Mac and cheese is probably the only food in the country you know most kids will love. Even though they’ve been brought up on the dish they can’t get enough of it. If you don’t want to make a plain one there are fancier options available.
5. Hot Dogs
Allow the children to create their own hot dogs. You’ll need fried onions, grated cheese, ketchup, and mustard. If you really want to go all out include chili, or if you want something less spicy use plain old bolognese.
6. Food on a Stick
I bet you used to eat food on a stick at parties, but they would be really basic. Cheese, tomato, and pickled onion was considered the norm, so if you have seen pineapple your head would explode. Try to come up with a lot more creative ideas.
7. Banana Splits
Give each child a plate with a sliced banana running down the middle. Let them fill the banana with ice cream on their own. Keep a scoop inside a few different tubs. They can finish it off with sprinkles, chocolate drops, and other toppings.
8. Grilled Cheese
If you need another quick and easy snack to fill the table you can’t go wrong with grilled cheese slices. Use a few varieties of cheese to mix things up. Sprinkle a little bit of pepper on some of them if you want to make hot ones.
9. Sushi Rolls
Kids might not appreciate raw fish at the moment, but you have to get them used to eating sushi rolls. It’s one of those foods where you have lots of options on the table. Make them with tuna, chicken, fruit, vegetables, and even chocolate.
10. Caramel Apples
If you’ve been to enough amusement parks you’ll have eaten lots of caramel apples. It’s definitely one of the best and cheapest desserts you can make for parties. Once your apples are on the sticks be careful rolling them around in the hot caramel.
You Don’t Have to Use Them All
You don’t want the kids to go home 10 pounds heavier, so don’t use everything we’ve mentioned today. Let your child pick out their favorites. If the kids are too full to move they won’t be able to enjoy any of the games you’ve planned out.
