Tips To Organize Your Garage Before Holidays
It’s almost the holidays and you are probably preparing your house before the family comes to celebrate the festivities. Since the weather is also colder, you’re probably thinking that it’s time to put the car and the bikes back into the garage for storage.
The problem is your garage is now full of clutter so it’s better to start organizing all of the stuff that has been stored inside your garage to make way for more things. Did you know that only 30% are able to store their cars inside the garage due to the volume of stuff found inside?
But there is a way to store both your car and things inside your garage. You just need to be creative and organized. Read for some tips you can use if you want to get started with decluttering your garage before the holidays.
- Invest in shelves and other storage bins – the best investment you can do is to buy or build some shelves and buy storage bins. Most clutter are just lying about, while some are in boxes. To make your garage look more pleasant, organize all of these with shelves and some storage bins. You can make the shelves by utilizing a wire shelving unit or buying a simple wooden shelf. But you can also get more creative and look for a company that can build you a custom garage shelving system for all your stuff. Check here if you need shelving using these garage systems.
- Use vertical and ceiling space –if you do not have enough floor to build a shelf, you can still make use of the wall or ceilings for extra storage. A pegboard is most effective to store things such as tools and some small machines. You can use a wall mount for other, bigger things like rakes, torches and even bikes.
- Label everything – labeling is of course not needed for things that are just places on the shelves, peg boards or wall mount. But it you have the small things like clothes, toys or books, you can’t just leave them lying about. That’s what the storage bins are for. You can use paper boxes, plastic boxes or any storage you might like. But one thing you must not forget to do is to label everything. You don’t want to end up opening up all the boxes just to look for one thing because you are not sure where it was stored.
- Repurpose some things that you would have thrown away – before you start organizing your garage, do an inventory of your things, both inside the garage and even in your house. Check if there are things inside your house that can just be stored inside the garage, and check if there are things that you can just dispose of so you can free up more space. Also, it would be a good idea to see if there are things that you can upcycle instead of just throwing away.
