Tile Trends 2017
Well and truly in the middle of 2017 we’re taking a look at which trends have taken off to become the hottest interior looks of the year. Tiles have seen a huge surge in interest over recent years with their applications becoming more and more versatile. Because of this, there are endless designs and styles of offer to help you create your dream home.
Herringbone and Metro
Metro tiles have seen a huge increase in demand this year as they can offer a variety of different looks. The metro tile has a bevelled edge, this means that the edges of the tiles are slightly curved to create more definition. The metro tile can be installed in the typical brick format or can be installed vertically for a retro vibe.
The most popular style to come out of the metro trend however is the herringbone. The chevron look of the herringbone gives a vintage aesthetic with a modern twist and is a subtle way of bringing a pattern to a room without opting for something glaringly obvious. The metro tiles are available in a large range of colours and finishes to give you a seemingly endless choice.
Fish Scale/Fan
Another pattern style tile, the fish scale, or fan tile, has been proving itself popular this year showing up in bathrooms in particular. The pattern of the fan tile looks stunning, especially when used with oceanic colours such as blues and greens. This tile is a great way of adding some definition to a wall or floor and will create an eye-catching design.
Natural Stone
With its rustic, earthy look natural stone tiles are in demand this year. The trend for bringing the outdoors in continues to grow and the combination of natural stone with woods and or plants creates a beautiful aesthetic that compliments any home. Natural stone is incredibly strong and impervious to water, making it ideal for bathrooms and kitchens but can also be used in any room of a property. Natural stone is also available in a variety of different textures and colours dependent on the type. When paired with golds and other similar nature orientated colours, natural stone can really pull through as a standout design feature.
Patterns
Much as feature walls were all the range a few years ago, it seems it’s the turn of the feature floor. Commonly a brightly patterned tile is used for the floor and is paired with a more subtle and monochromatic wall and furniture pieces. This can create a beautifully modern bathroom or kitchen that allows you to work with accent colours to create a strong colour scheme and a different outlook on floor tiles.
Hexagon/Honeycomb
Tiles with an unusual shape are also showing a high increase in interest this year, most notably, hexagon tiles. The hexagon tiles offers a wall or floor a better sense of dimension and can create a modern and contemporary aesthetic. These tiles look especially good when paired with a contrasting grout which will help the tile to pop, showing off the shape more for a striking effect.
So there we have it, just a few of the trends that seem to be taking the tile world by storm this year.
