Home Decor You Should and Shouldn’t Spend Your Money On
If you are a homeowner, you would agree that nothing beats a good bargain and the feeling of accomplishment whenever you turn “trash” into “treasure.” You probably like saving money as well, and you know that it is more practical to save those dollars instead of buying furniture that you do not really need. Although it’s okay to splurge on home decors every now and then, it’s also important that you learn how to save. To help you with that, I have created a list of home decors that you should and should not be spending on.
7 Pointers on Decorating Your Home
1. SPEND on Furniture
There are items that are made to last for a long time and withstand a number of uses. One of them is furniture pieces–you would definitely spend a lot of time using this, and so, it is important that you choose one that could endure wear and tear.
If you are thinking that you are going to spend a lot of time entertaining in the kitchen, then it would be practical to spend on pretty, yet high quality bar stools for the guests. If you have a reading nook where you relax and spend a lot of time reading, then you should also spend on that. What we are trying to say is, you should be spending on furniture pieces where you are going to spend most of your time.
2. SPEND on Durable Floors
If you have some pets in the home, then you should definitely splurge on durable flooring. Ideally, you should use hard surface flooring to ensure that the animal-occupied rooms would be in good condition for a long time. Choices such as ceramic tiles, stone, and laminate flooring are advised. Painted concrete can also be your option as they are easier to clean and stain-free. Best of all, these types of flooring are also cooler during the hot weather, making it perfect for pets with long or thick fur.
3. SAVE on Tables
Whether dining room or end tables, you do not really have to spend a lot to get a good one. In fact, a trip to the local antique market would let you pick a high-quality table at a very affordable price. You just have to refinish it, and it’s good as new. The key is you should be willing to search for the perfect table at thrift stores, garage sales, and antique shops; you are bound to find one that looks like a million dollars.
4. SPEND on Lighting
No doubt, great lighting could completely transform your home, and make it look much better. We are not saying that you should buy every fixture that costs a fortune; instead, have layers of light. There should be proper lighting on the wall, floor, ceiling, and table fixture. Choose the bulbs of proper wattage and dimmers; this would make your home look more attractive.
5. SPEND on a Nice Sofa
We highly recommend that you invest on a nice sofa. Although you should not buy one that would leave you in debt, you should look for a good quality sofa instead of the cheapest on in the market. By doing so, you will be saving a good amount of cash in the long run, because you won’t have to replace it as often–which you would probably end up doing if you settle for a cheaper kind. Additionally, it does not mean that you should get a “high-end” sofa, but something that is constructed well enough to take a beating and survive. You should also upgrade to a nicer quality fabric that’s easy to clean, yet child and pet-friendly.
6. SAVE on Rugs
Why spend on rugs if you can usually get them for 70% off during sales? There are a lot of stylish, affordable options on the market. You just have to look for them
7. SAVE on Throw Pillows
Honestly, there is no need to spend hundreds of dollars on throw pillows because you can easily fake it with accessories. This would easily allow you to use them to accent furniture that you have invested in. Just scour the vintage and homemade stores in your area and you’ll be able to find a lot of cool pillows at an affordable price.
