Putting the Finishing Touches to Your New Bedroom
If you are planning to redecorate your bedroom, getting the finish right is extremely important. It does not matter whether you have spent a fortune on your new wardrobes, if you do not choose the right bedding sets, curtains and soft furnishings you will never be able to achieve the look you are really after. Dressing the room in the right way is as important as making sure that you choose the right colour for your walls, and carpets.
Settle on the look before you start the decorating process
The best approach is to determine the exact look you are after before you start redecorating. Decorating a bedroom piecemeal is a sure-fire way to end up feeling dissatisfied with the result.
Most people finish the decorating before they go out and buy things like the light fixtures, bedding, rugs, cushions, paintings and all of the other items that make the room comfortable, and nice to look at. This can work out fine, but a better approach is to buy everything you need before you actually start painting. If you buy the bedding first, you can match the paint to that, which is easy. These days you can buy custom mixed paint, so can get a near perfect match.
A place for everything
To avoid ending up with a cluttered looking bedroom take the time to find a place for everything. Make sure that everything can be put away neatly. Doing so will ensure that your pristine new room is not ruined once you move into it by having your bits and pieces scattered everywhere.
If you do not have anywhere convenient to hang your dressing gown, or space for your iPad, books and a bottle of water it is worth sorting these issues out at the design stage. For example, by installing a couple of hooks on the back of your door and adding an extra shelf to your nightstand.
Get the lighting right
For any bedroom getting the lighting right is important. You need to make sure that there is a way to turn the lights on and off from the bed, and ensure that both occupants of the room can read without disturbing each other. For a bedroom dimmer lighting is always a good idea, so consider buying some.
Working with a tight budget
For those on a tight budget buying a couple of cheap, plain, bedding sets to use while they save up is a good approach. It means they can get on with decorating their bedroom, and finish it off when they have the money to do so. If you are lucky, you may even be able to pick up the exact bedding set you want in the sales. Some firms offer a service that allows shoppers to be notified via a text message or email of sales before they take place. In some cases, you can even track the price of a specific product by using an app.
