Kos Island, Greece
Hello, friends!
It’s been already two weeks since I returned from my vacation on Kos Island, but I still can’t get me in the mood to work. Everything was just perfect. Kos is quite a big island with lots of activities to do. I stayed in a beautiful Kos Aktis Art Hotel. The rooms have magnificent sea view and I always had a feeling that I am on a cruise ship.
When you have such a view you don’t really care about interior design, however I was pleased with modern minimalistic style and functionality of the room.
There is something therapeutic and comforting about the sound of the waves and constant movement of sea surface.
The hotel is located near historic center. The island is famous to be the birth place of Hippocrates. There are also remains of the ancient city which looks very impressive:
The town itself is very cute and quite. There is not much to do, but you can find some little local shops and lots of tavernas.
Local food is absolutely delicious. You can’t go wrong with local cheese – saganaki, various seafood, sardines and meat plate.
My favorite was mussels in tomato sauce. I also asked for the recipe and it is very simple: just put some garlic, onions and tomatoes in olive oil and fry, add a glass of white wine, add mussels and put everything in the oven for 30 minutes.
Octopus and calamari are usually grilled here. In Greece they put them for couple of hours to dry on the sun before cooking- this preserves the unique taste of this seafood.
Kos Island is located just 45 minutes by boat from Bodrum in Turkey, so of course I didn’t miss the opportunity to visit it. Bodrum is quite small and in fact there is not much to see, but there is a very beautiful castle – and absolute must visit if you are there.
Food in Turkey is very tasty too. I tried their famous kebabs and Doner:
This trip was just to confirm that Greece is one of my favorite destinations in Europe… I recommend to everyone!
