Industrial Modern Farmhouse Dining Room

Spread the love

What I love about my blog is that gives me opportunity to connect with various people from all over the world. Especially it is exciting to meet (virtually) fellow designers and discover their beautiful works. In today’s post I want to share an amazing project recently executed by 35 West Design .

I asked Andrea, the studio partner, to tell me few words on how they worked on this project. Here is what she told me:

“We loved the idea of putting together a very masculine design style such as “industrial,” next to something a little bit more feminine and cozy, as it is “farmhouse.” We thought we could add “modern” in there to work as the glue and as truly an excuse to bring in more amazing pieces that updated and kept current the overall look, and then Industrial Modern Farmhouse was born.

The dining room we worked at was quite large, which we were very grateful for, but it was also the only dining area in our clients’ townhouse. We had to add elements that kept it casual and functional for their every day, and, at the same time, provided the flexibility and fluidity to entertain larger parties of  friends and family during the weekends and evenings.

We had three main things we wanted to focus on to bring the design and the space to life:

  1. Lighting – we fell in love with a mobile, modern chandelier from West Elm. We added Edison light bulbs, which are very fun and casual, but also helped us keep the light soft and warm for the couple’s romantic evenings. We also added a dimmer to the fixture, for additional light, especially for football games and other more casual entertaining.

2. Sitting – keeping it flexible in terms of how many people we could comfortably fit was a challenge. A bench adds extra sitting without blocking the view, and it can fit 1-3 people, or up to 4 tiny kids! We also built the bench and the dining table with a local artisan right here in Miami, who helped us design custom extensions that, once attached to the table, can sit up to 12 people.

3. Personality- we had a lot of fun bringing in more rustic accessories for her such as succulents, colorful birds, gold and glass lanterns, and chalkboards. For him, we arranged a shelf with a Miami local brewery bottles and glasses, and also added a bar cart next to the distressed vintage shelves. He surely doesn’t mind the rustic as he knows a good pour of Bourbon is just a few steps away!

The furniture for this project was sourced from local artisans (various) as well as big box retailers in the US. For the detailed list of resources, please come say hello and visit us at, 35westdesign.com
