One night after work you may collapse on your couch, look around at the surroundings and wonder where did you go wrong with your home decor. The first room to attack is certainly the bedroom. This room needs to be a relaxing paradise, where we can unwind after long and busy day.
The main thing which I ask my clients not to save money on is the mattress. If you buy cheap and uncomfortable, it will result in long restless nights and eventually will damage your health too. After that, you can start to focus on the style of your bedroom. Things that you might consider to purchase are a new comforter set and some beautiful bed pillows to give the room a more elegant and cozy feel. Finally, remove the clutter and add darker curtains for privacy and light control. Some extra furniture and accessories, such as a dressing table and decorative lamps can be the final touches. You will immediately notice that the room looks more relaxing and inviting now.
Next on the list is the living room. Get rid of all those knick-knacks that you had been collecting, focus on one theme. Decorative pillows on the couches is the easiest thing to update, but this little change will have a dramatic effect. Play with texture and pattern, don’t be shy with them – go bold and dramatic. Added smaller accessories on the mantle, tables, and shelves, all in line with the theme that you have picked. Create a focal point in the room with stunning artwork or wall decor. When clients ask me to place or not to place a rug on the floor (some of them don’t want to deal with dust and dirt they accumulate), I always advise them to put one, since it will add some texture and colour to a space and make your floors more comfortable to walk on. Your living room will look now fresh and cozy.
The kitchen is the place where a family usually spends most of the time. If the counters are cluttered with accessories and gadgets, it makes it difficult to prepare foods effectively. If space allows a good idea will be to install a kitchen island right in the center of the room. It should have plenty of drawers to provide some extra storage, which kitchen always needs.
You may use them to get rid of the clutter from the counters, and you will immediately feel that you have freed up a ton of space. Next thing to consider is to hang the frying pans and pots above the island on a bakers rack. It will open up the room and free up more cabinet space. You can prepare foods on the island, and the rest of the area will be clear of any junk.
Taking the time to implement a few key changes based on a budget can have a huge positive impact on the look of each room.
