Club Chair is definitely one of my favorite pieces of furniture. First appeared in the beginning of the 20th century in France, it remains just as relevant and popular as ever. Though modern coverings might include velvet, cotton and calfskin, it is typically upholstered in a sheep’s leather and it is also the type I like most. Leather is usually vegetable-tanned and you can see all little imperfections, marks and defects through a dye: this makes every chair one-of-a-kind. Same as good wine, club chairs only get better with time: natural leather ages beautifully and shows unique patina after years of use. A good leather chair will last for decades, if built properly and made of fine materials.
How to choose a club chair
Initially club chair was called fauteuil comfortable, or the “comfortable armchair”, so comfort is playing the crucial role when choosing one. It needs to be soft and comfy though support your body appropriately. The fill should be thick so it doesn’t sag later on. It is ok if leather seems firm for the new chairs (which is usually not the case for vintage pieces) – it will stretch out during many years of use. Quality chair should be constructed from a solid wood, rather than particle board, so don’t be lazy to look underneath the seat to check it out. Consider also the overall style of a room, where you want to place it and decide what shape and color would fit it better.
How to decorate the room with club chairs
Club chair is one of those timeless and classical pieces that can fit basically any style of a room: from traditional to modern and from industrial to rustic. However, the style of a room anyway should be considered . Thus classical designs with curved lines and rounded backs would look best in traditional spaces, while pieces with straight lines and sharp corners will be a good choice for Modern interiors. Color and texture should also match with the overall scheme: otherwise your wonderful chair will stick out like a sore thumb. Generally brown leather chairs look wonderful in white Scandinavian rooms, as well as in dark and moody interiors – it gives those spaces the desired warmth.
