Fall-Winter 2013 Design Trends
Talking about trends we never can separate fashion and interior design – they always go hand in hand. Usually though, fashion comes first and then interior designers follow established tendencies in home decor.
Let’s have a look at what was hot on runways this season:
1) Go Green
Pantone has declared Emerald green as the main colour of this year. Despite it’s being still very hot, designers have used more subtle, rich and darker tones for their autumn collections, such as moss or deep lichen green:
How to translate it to your home decor:
– Have a closer look at accessories. Luxurious cushions from Etro, for example, will remind you of freshness and rich colours of autumn forest:
– You need a little bit of confidence to use this shade of green as primary in your colour scheme, but the result can be just amazing. This hue is perfect for decorating living rooms and libraries, as creates very harmonious and relaxing feel. This colour though is very intense and need to be complimented with warm and bright accents (gold, buttery yellow, ivory and deep reds):
2) Striking Blue
Another prominent colour trend from catwalks. Dramatic, pure and luxurious – it is perfect for the evening outfit:
How to translate it to your home decor:
Don’t be afraid, don’t compromise, just go bold!
If you give this colour the chief role, you will be just astonished with the result. Have a look at the Mykonos Blue paint from Pantone or Brillian Blue from Benjamin Moore. Use it in combination with white and you will achieve a relaxed and airy feeling of Greek villages. Or you can go further and paint with it walls and cabinetry for even brighter and stronger impact. It is very pure and vivid so very pleasing for our eyes, just balance it with little accessories coloured in hues from the opposite side of the colour wheel – oranges, reds and even yellows:
3) Feeling Gray
And there is no surprise: summer is over, we enjoy the last sunny days and already anticipate rains and snows. All shades of gray are popular this season, from light heather tones to deep gray and even charcoal.
How to translate it to your home decor:
Confidently and easy like all other neutrals. Gray works perfect as a primary colour. For creating relaxing and serene environment use light shades of gray in combination with whites and beige, just add a lot of texture so that the space doesn’t look boring. If you like something more extraordinary, go for darker hues close to black and compliment it compliment it with bright and vivid accents (bright pink and red are the classic combo for it).
