Tropical Chic Decor
Maybe it is summer, maybe it is tiring heat in Moscow, but I am all the time dreaming about vacation by the sea. I was so lucky that four years of my life I spent in the most beautiful corners of the world: Maldives and Seychelles – tropical islands in the Indian Ocean, and now every now and then I have nostalgic memories about those wonderful times.
When I first arrived to Maldives I really thought that it is a Paradise on Earth. Turquoise waters of the ocean, snow-white beaches and lush tropical vegetation: these stunning pictures took my breath away. When you have such a beautiful surroundings it is very difficult to create a man-made structure that will not destroy the natural harmony but will enhance and complement it. In that sense designer has a very challenging task and tropical chic or coastal style is one of the most difficult to create.
Having this nostalgic mood today I remembered the most beautiful resorts where I had chance to stay. These places are absolutely stunning and I strongly recommend you to visit them if you ever have a chance.
Here I brought some images of them, which I find truly inspirational. Please enjoy!
This outdoor terrace just blows me away! Little stones are strung on ropes are used to create the shade above the sofa so that you can enjoy coolness and sunbathing at the same time!
Tropical chic style can be interpreted in many different ways and you can give an absolute freedom to your imagination and creative thinking. However, there are some simple rules which I recommend you to follow:
1) Use nature around you for ideas and inspiration: pay attention to existing colours, textures, materials. By using them in the space you will make sure that it will not conflict with the surrounding environment but will rather complement it. Mainly use neutral colours: beige, taupe, cream, browns and create some bright accents with cushions and accessories. Blues, greens, bright yellows and reds look very beautiful in the coastal style spaces.
2) Use organic materials as much as possible: plastic, synthetic fabrics and faux flowers will look odd and out of place. Instead of them involve wood, bamboo, natural stone, shells, and textiles made from natural fibers. Rattan furniture, wicker baskets and wooden antique trunks can be a perfect choice as accent pieces.
3) Look for authentic and exotic pieces: oriental area rugs, carved Indian furniture and african masks will look great in Tropical chic interiors.
4) Don’t overload the space: go for minimalism with large-scale objects, few but bold accents and plenty of natural light.
5) Comfort must be your design credo. Forget about hard seating, annoying lighting and sharp corners. Everything in the room must invite you to sit, unwind and relax.
6) Bring surrounding lush vegetation inside the room – large plants such as palm trees and bamboos will look especially good.
