Essential Trend: All in Bloom
Probably tired after this year’s cold and long winter, designers all over the world decided to decorate their spring collections in flamboyant floral prints. How nice it is to bring this blooming splendor to our houses after grey monotony of winter days, endless snows and rains! Imaginary fragrance fills the room and you feel like you’re in the marvelous spring garden…
I must say that the floral trend returns with remarkable regularity each year, yet designers try to bring something new in their collections or interpret it in a different way. Lets have a look, what they have prepared for us this year.
1) GRANNY CHIC DECOR FROM LAURA ASHLEY
Designers from world famous home furnishing company have added a bit of nostalgia. Old-fashioned looking roses, peonies and poppies are depicted on the wallpaper, curtains, cushions and lampshades.
My opinion: interesting, but very seasonal. Probably already in autumn, you will decide to change this flashy ornament for something more humble.
How to use: items from this collection will look great as bright accents in the room. Use these bold accessories (cushions, rug or lampshades) on the neutral background. This vivid ornament will work best with discreet and muted colours – beige, grey and off-white. For example, if you want to add colourful cushions, the upholstery on the sofa needs to be neutral or monochromatic – this way they will stand out and draw attention. If you want to use wallpaper – apply it on the feature wall, not in the whole room. Interesting decision was offered by Laura Ashley itself: to decorate the wall combining squares of wallpaper with different patterns, where colourful flowers sit next to neutral colours and discreet ornaments.
2) REFINED AND DISCREET FROM OSBORNE & LITTLE
Pastels, neutrals and oriental motifs characterize spring collections from Osborne & Little.
My opinion: Delicate and classic. These floral prints will create a very feminine, gentle and sweet atmosphere in your house.
How to use: the fabrics will look great in living rooms, bedrooms and terraces. Use them in combination with other patterns, e.g. stripes and geometrical prints and plain monochromatics of the same hues that floral prints consists of.
3) MUTED ELEGANCE FROM BENNISON
This brand is famous for producing luxurious linen fabrics with rich ornaments, usually featuring floral, stripe or toile patterns. Complex and rich designs are muted by using faded colour palette, which makes these textiles look especially elegant.
My opinion: Benisson fabrics represent timeless elegance and off-season classic. Their high price is justified by superb quality and gorgeous design.
How to use: these fabrics will look great in traditional classic and country-style interiors. Use them for curtains, decorative cushions and furniture upholstery. Another option for bedrooms: drapery for canopy beds or upholstery for headboard in ensemble with curtains made of the same fabric will create feminine and delicate look.
4) BOLD AND BRIGHT FROM VOYAGE
New spring collection from Voyage features bright flowers on dark or light background:
My opinion: very bold and unexpected. Don’t be afraid of the colours – allow these bright and lively ornaments to enter your room and become the focal point.
Decorating tips: best for chairs, ottomans, headboards upholstery and decorative cushions. Don’t combine it with other floral prints, this fabric is too bright and it will hardly marry anything else apart from neutrals and monochrome. To create a rhythm in the interior, add to colourful chair some little accents decorated in the same fabric, for example, cushions on the sofa or ottoman.
