It takes time to make your house perfect, which is why dedicating each spring to a new project is a great way to not only spread out costs, but to also transform your house. Now, while you might have initially put effort into making the interior of your home perfect, whether it’s your bedrooms or your kitchen, it’s time to think about your backyard. Having a patch of grass isn’t very inspiring, and it also isn’t a great use of space. That is why you need to think about landscaping, decorating, and furnishing your backyard, ready for spring and summer. If you plan now and start in the spring, then you can actually enjoy the summer weather and lounge outside.

Here is what you’ll need to turn your empty backyard into the perfect oasis:

  • Sketch it Out
  • The more precise your measurements, the better your planning will be. You can either hire a landscaper to do this, or you can do it on your own. Either way, create a sketch with accurate measurements so that you can create the perfect backyard haven, without overcrowding. You will also have to decide what kind of backyard you will want. Many people put in a pool, for instance, only to find that the maintenance isn’t workable in their schedules. It is better to be realistic with how much you will use something. Often, having a nice border or trees, bushes, and plants, and having a good patio setup is all that you need.

  • Go to a Nursery
  • Once you have the sketch of your backyard, it’s time to go to a gardening nursery. Get their help with choosing the plants, trees, bushes and flowers that you should landscape your garden with. They will be able to help you choose greenery that will work in your backyard, and greenery that matches your experience. If you choose based on look alone, you could end up with dead plants, overgrowth, and more.

  • Plant First, Furnish Second
  • Before you buy furniture, you should get everything planted and settled. That way you can not only see how you feel with the space that is left over, but you can also choose which furniture you need. Once the warmer weather comes by, however, it’s time to pick up your furniture. One of my favourite sources for that is Sorara Outdoor Living.

  • Maintenance
  • Once everything is in place, you will need to maintain it. This means gardening, and it means taking care of your outdoor furniture so that it survives for longer. If you don’t maintain your backyard, then it things can break, become overgrown, die, or even fall over and damage your house.

Your backyard is the perfect oasis for every summer, but you need to be smart about how you plan and furnish it. The better developed your backyard, the more you will enjoy it and the longer it will last. Get outside this summer, enjoy the heat, the sun, and the nature and beauty of your own personal oasis.
