The Fridge

Do you have a boring old white fridge? Why keep it that way? Instead of purchasing a new one, consider using adhesive decorating tape to add flare. Try gold stripes, a colorful chevron pattern, or something else that blends with your current décor.

Mirrors

Adding mirrors will always make the room seem larger than it is, as well as add light. Try hanging longer mirrors on doors, or hang a large mirror on the wall that reaches fairly low so as to reflect more of the room.

Curtains

These can be either grandma-like or chic, depending on how you do it. Consider using old necklaces to hold curtains back. Curtains can be changed periodically and alter the overall look of the room, thus, they are a great option when decorating.

TV Cables

If you’ve got tons of TV cables or game console cables showing, use a white PVC pipe (which can also be painted!) to run the cables from the DVD player to the screen. It will instantly look nicer.

And, you can try an old, vintage frame to sit around your TV screen. It will take your TV room from blah to chic just like that.

Low Ceilings

If your ceilings are low-hanging, you can try painting 3/4ths of the height of the wall with one color, and the top 1/4th with another, lighter color. This color should probably match the ceiling color. This will give the illusion of more space between the floor and the ceiling.

Textured Painting

If you are feeling creative, you can add textures to the wall paint. Paint a coat of color over a white wall (or another lighter color), then use a bristled broom to create texture. Wipe from top to bottom, spreading the bristles out with your hands. You’ll have a texture that looks like brush strokes and is a nice vintage touch to any wall.
