One of the things that I really enjoy being a self-employed interior designer and entrepreneur is the freedom that I have when it comes to choosing work outfits. No more boring corporate dress codes or disastrous uniforms. I can even stay in my pajamas all day long if I work from home.

However, even though designers are free to choose what to wear, we shouldn’t underestimate the importance of personal appearance. How can a client trust me to dress his home if I can’t tastefully dress myself?

The image is all about non-verbal communication – you sending a message to a client regarding your style and color preferences. For example, if you wearing hipster outfit and meeting with a client that prefers the elegant classic look, she might not hire you for this job because she probably will think that you will fail to understand her design aesthetics.

Refined well-thought image will also help you to target richer clientele. Invest in your wardrobe – it is something that will definitely pay off. When figuring out your personal style it is great to look for some inspiration on Pinterest or fashion blogs.
