We interior design enthusiasts all know how important light is in creating the ultimate style. But, we mainly focus on lighting fixtures or natural light to produce the best results. Well, this might seem a little bit controversial, but this post is different. Yep, this post is going to focus on the shiny stuff itself. Shocking! Here are the lighting tips that you need to try and understand if you want to take your designs to the next level. In the immortal words of the Lord and Savior, let there be light.

Lighting Plan

Just like everything successful, you need a plan to help illuminate the murky darkness. Oh it sounds odd, of that there is no doubt, but that doesn’t make it false. You see, the light in a room should differ depending on a multitude of things. For example, lighting in the kitchen needs to be stronger than in the living. The reason why is simple: you want to be able to see what you’re eating. But it doesn’t stop there because it’s always important to highlight key features or respect architectural boundaries. Without a plan, there is no way a layperson can tackle all of these variables.

Merge With Mirrors

Unfortunately, not every room in the house will be to your liking size wise. Sorry to burst your bubble, but that is just an occupational hazard of being a homeowner. There isn’t much you can do about it unless you have a couple of lighting tricks up your sleeve. The first and main one is using lighting in conjunction with mirrors. The light from the fixtures should reflect off of the mirrors to make the room seem bigger. Now, it’s worth noting that the area won’t magically increase in size. However, sometimes perception becomes a reality. So, if it feels bigger, it is bigger. It’s weird but true.

Be Bulb Wary

Bulbs are important for two reasons. The first is that certain bulbs go with particular fittings. Do you use spotlights? If you do, it might come as a shock to you that LED Par30 bulbs are the perfect fit. A Par light bulb gives off a more focused and controlled beam, which concentrates the light in a particular area.

The second thing you need to know about bulbs is the life cycle and energy efficiency. No one wants to ruin the environment and their bank balance in one swoop, so it’s crucial that you choose wisely. Bulbs that last and don’t guzzle energy are always the best choice as long as they are affordable.

Quantity Over Quality

One mistake you don’t want to make is being inconsistent. Too many different lighting options only serve to make the style look haphazard and cluttered. In simple terms, it makes you seem like you don’t have a clue! Although it isn’t easy, it’s vital that you use light sparingly as less is often more. So, choose a trend and stick with it through thick and thin.
