Hello, my dear friends!

I have just finished work on an interior design project and I thought I would share with you the whole process – step by step.

It is a small studio apartment in Moscow. My client – a young lady wanted me to create fresh, light and cozy space with clear divisions of zones – sitting area and bedroom.

So I’ve started with visiting the house and taking all the measurements. Check this post to see how I carry out a survey and site measure. Of course I take lots of photos and videos of the place:

At this stage it is very important to collect as much information as possible – not only about the house, but about client’s preferences as well – lifestyle, hobbies, work, character. I usually create a secret board on Pinterest, where we share our ideas and my clients pin the interiors that they like.

The first step would be to make design analysis of client’s needs and drawing the floor plan with all the measurements. I have used Archicad to work on this project:

Then I have made three furniture layout options and presented them to the client including simple visualizations:

The client really liked the idea of glass room divider which clearly separates two zones. So this was the planning option that got approved:

The bed will have hidden storage similar to this:

Now it is time to put together all technical drawings required to start renovation process. The most important is the electricity plan (now when I know where the furniture will be situated it is easy to allocate the lights and sockets):

The circuits (I usually imagine myself walking around the space and trying to virtually switch on the lights that I have put on the plan):

The sockets – it is important to allocate sufficient amount of them, especially in the kitchen, so I make the full list of all equipment, that clients will have. The sockets in the bathroom need to be waterproof:

Heated floor – it needs to be allocated 100mm from all cabinets and walls:

In the meantime I also worked on the concept, colour and material choices. I usually present them to the client in the form of collage made in Photoshop:
