Blog Income Report: April 2016

Blog income report

April was an incredibly busy month for me and it was really challenging to keep up with blogging sometimes. The mistake I often do nowadays is that I tend to abandon my blog for days, sometimes weeks when I am getting too busy with my interior projects. I thought it would immediately reflect on my income figures, but surprisingly my blog did quite well in April.

Before I sharing the figures I wanted to answer two most popular questions that I get from people:

  1. How much traffic my blog should have before I start monetization?
  2. How can I start to monetize my blog?

My answer to the first question: You don’t need to have tons of pageviews to start earning money with it. At the same time if you are just starting your blog and your traffic is around 50 views per day, your attempts to monetize it will probably be close to zero. I started to have regular income when my blog had approximately 15-20k views per month. Before that I used to get some occasional sponsored blog requests and my earning with Google Adsense were not more that 20 dollars per month. My recommendation is to wait until your blog will start getting at least 10k pageviews per month and then you can start monetizing it. Here is how:

  • make a proper research of companies that you think can be a perfect match for your blog for a sponsorship
  • get your Media kit done and send a pitch letter to those companies
  • create a “work with me” or “hire me” page on your blog where you describe what kind of collaborations are possible (sponsored posts, ad banners, etc.)
  • research companies that might be interested to be affiliate partners with you. Start selling their products with banners, links in blog posts, links on the pages.
  • Google Adsense and Amazon affiliate program sound like the most obvious choice for starting bloggers, you can join them too, but bear in mind that they don’t bring lots of money (unless you have tons of traffic).

Few things that I did differently in April

  1. I quitted Amazon affiliate program – I was really unhappy with the results it was showing so I decided not to continue with it.  I know many bloggers get descent income with Amazon, but I think proper monetization strategy should only include things that work best for you.
  2. My affiliate collaboration with Live Home 3D was very successful, so I decided to research what other similar companies I can partner with. I discovered a very cool Interior Design Project manager software, they have already agreed to work with me, so soon I will get the review post and banners which would contain affiliate links.
  3. I started to stress out less about lack of time and things that I have not done. Instead of putting an enormous to-do list for myself every morning, I am now more realistic about how much I can accomplish in one day.
  4. I started to get up 1 hour earlier in the morning  (in summer you tend to do it naturally) and it feels amazing about how many things you can actually do in 1 extra hour.
