Toolbox Essentials For The DIY Enthusiast

I just realized that it’s been a while since I’ve done my latest DIY Project which was these Mid-century Modern chairs, which we’ve done with my best friend. I’m already itching to start working on some interesting project (already have several ideas for this apartment that I’m working on right now). In the meantime, I decided to make my DIY toolbox and get all necessary tools that I might need for all my future projects. So this article will be about it.
We’ve all heard that old saying – a man is only as good as his tools. It hasn’t become outdated in anyway. Especially when it comes to the DIY mentality, if a job is worth doing, it’s worth doing right. The Do It Yourself enthusiast prides himself on being able to tackle any job that rears its ugly head. This can be a lifesaver when something unexpected happens that needs a quick fix. Fear not, just hand that man a wrench and let him get to work.
Oh, you don’t have a wrench? Bummer. I guess it’ll have to wait. Or, worse, get your head in the Yellow Pages and find somebody that does. But that’s going to cost you a fair bit of money, no? Wouldn’t it have been great if you had the right tools for the job in the first place? Just like tools for your car, you need to have right tools for your home projects. Well, we’ve compiled this list of all the gadgets a handymen will ever need to take on any DIY or interior design job. You’re welcome.
Router table
The purchase of a wood router is usually one of the first things in the list of any DIY enthusiast. It is the essential tool for many types of woodwork, which will allow you to accomplish many interesting projects – from custom furniture to shelves and wall panels.
Brushes
You’re going to need these if you have any intention of ever decorating your home again. You can supplement your paint brush set with a roller too. They make it incredibly easy to get your first coat onto the walls and ceiling. They also allow you to get to those places that are just out of reach! Try and get the ones with extendable handles, so that you don’t strain yourself while trying to reach the ceiling!
Electric Drill
Because why would you want to waste your energy? With the click of a button, you can drill screws into holes in an instant. And with minimal fuss or effort. They’re by far the most treasured item in any serious handyman’s toolbox. It’ll probably also be your most expensive purchase. But, remember, you get what you pay for.
Pliers
These comes incredibly handy (get it?) for those awkward little things that can’t be easily bent out of shape. We’ve all been there. You need to bend a screw and no amount of sheer brute strength is going to do the trick. Why should you struggle or hurt yourself? Save yourself the bother and stock your toolbox with a decent pair of pliers.
Raw Materials
This is often overlooked, but I’d argue that it’s imperative. We like to keep our garage stocked with spare bits of wood and metal just in case they ever come in handy. Just imagine that your table leg breaks. Why go through the stress of having to drive to a hardware store just to pick up a replacement? You could have it right there in your garage! A good idea is to keep all bits of wood left over from previous jobs. Or, if you don’t have any going begging, you can pick some up from any reputable builders merchants.
Scissors
Not just any old scissors. You’re going to need a pair of scissors for all eventualities. Ones that are tough enough to cut through testing fabrics like carpet. The best ones to aim for are those that are made of metal, as their bite is worse than their bark. You don’t want to find that you can’t cut your way through the carpet because you’ve got blunt scissors, do you?
Screwdrivers
These are simply non-negotiable. Pretty much every single DIY job I’ve ever encountered have the need for a set of screwdrivers. Notice the emphasis on the word set? Not all screwdrivers are created equally. You’ve got flatheads, Philips, crossheads. They all serve different purposes and will need to be called upon at different times. Make sure you don’t get caught short with these. They are pretty inexpensive.
Tape Measure
We aren’t going to be working with estimates here. If you’re going to do a job properly, we need some exact figures. You definitely need to measure things out to the very millimeter, and there’s no better tool for that than a tape measure. Alternatively, you can pick up one of those long guides, but tape measures are far more convenient. They take up less space, and can be expanded depending on how long you need it to be.
Torch
Just because. Don’t question it. You’ll thank us if your power ever gets cut out. And where better to keep it that your toolbox? That way, when your lights go out, you know exactly where it is and how to get there. It’ll also come in handy for jobs that involve working without natural light, or if your shadow is obstructing your view.
