Declutter

This is by far the easiest step that can be taken in your functionality improvement process. You practically need no investment or professional expertize whatsoever to start and finish it. All you need to do is put sentimentality aside and get rid of all the things that are rarely being used, or are not used at all anymore. The moment you start going through dozens of things that lay around your kid’s room you will be surprised by the amount of unnecessary items. Keep a couple as memorabilia and give away or get rid of everything else. The results and the extra space gained will be clearly noticeable.

Sleeping haven

Quality sleep is of utmost importance when it comes to children’s health. Everything that enables the best sleeping conditions matters, sleeping time schedule, room temperature, peace and quiet, but the most important preconditions is a quality bed and its position in the room. An ergonomic bed is the best solution. Also, it should be positioned away from the door and windows, to provide the quietest and warmest spot in the room. If you have more than one child, bunk beds will provide a lot more playing space than regular ones. Naturally, once they grow older, bunk beds can be easily separated into individual ones.

Storage

Even with regular maintenance and decluttering, kid’s rooms somehow always lack storage space. On the other hand, it is quite normal, bearing in mind all their toys, school equipment, hobbies, clothing…Providing suitable storage substantially improves functionality of a room. Floor to ceiling closets are great space savers and an interesting design accent. Another space saver and a very user friendly solution for kids are drawers that go underneath the bed. Kids can easily reach them when needed and return them when they are done playing, saving you a lot of effort along the way.

Having as much natural light as possible is what every pediatrician advices. Traditional windows are a potential safety issue, particularly for young children and especially those that open inward.  Luckily, there is a solution in the likes of roof windows. They are perfectly safe and provide a unique setting, especially during starry nights. Take double glazed windows in serious consideration. Studying corner

Another highly important constituent of any truly functional kid’s room is a studying corner. The center piece is a suitable desk and a proper chair. Their common denominator is ergonomics. It does not matter whether the children are using the desk and the chair to study, go online or got through their collection of stickers, they need to sit properly in order to keep their back, neck and spine healthy. A reading lamp is a must, as well, to complete a fully functional and healthy studying corner.
