If you’re looking for some DIY jobs to carry out this autumn, here are 5 simple ideas to consider.

1. Add Some Shelves to the Wall

There’s no more simple DIY job than putting up shelves. But that doesn’t mean many of us actually bother to do it! All you have to do is find the material you want to use to make the shelves and then put them in place using nails and brackets. You don’t have to stick to the safe options when creating a shelf. You can choose an old object and repurpose it. Or use an out of the ordinary material. What you do is entirely up to you, but remember that it needs to be able to hold the necessary weight.

2. Construct the Coffee Table

Coffee tables can be made in all sorts of ways. All you need is a glass top, and then what you choose to do with the rest of the table is up to you. Some people like to create the base out of old books. This creates a pretty unique and interesting effect in the room. You just secure the glass to the stacked up books and place the table in the middle of your living space. It’s a clever way of making something out of the ordinary. On the picture below the side table is made of the old copper pipes:

3. Make an Open Kitchen Dining Space

Having a small kitchen and a small dining room separated by a wall can be a big frustration. But a lot of older homes are designed this way. The only way to fix this problem is to knock down the dividing wall and create one large space instead of two small ones. This is something that more and more people are now deciding to do, and it’s not hard to see why. It helps the home feel more spacious, and it makes it much easier to use, giving its functionality a boost.

4. Build a Shed

If you have nowhere to store your outdoor goods, you should think about building yourself a shed in the back garden. It’s the perfect way to keep your things safe from the elements. They can be difficult to build, but if you find a good plan and buy the right materials, it’s possible to do. Use local timber merchants because this is usually where you’ll find the best quality materials for the job. Don’t pay over the odds from a big supplier. Finally, you can think about whether you want an electrical supply in the shed.

5. Put Up a New Fence

As we head towards winter, it’s a good idea to make your garden more secure. When the frost starts to bite, and the snow starts to fall, it can do damage to your garden fixtures. You don’t want your garden fence to become even more eroded and damaged. That’s why this time of the year is the best time to replace your old fence when a new one. All you need is some concrete, fence posts and fence panels. If you know how to mix and pour the concrete to secure the posts in place, you shouldn’t have any trouble carrying this out.
