At its heart, interior design is a simple thing. The concept is to make a room look good, what’s hard to understand about that? When you’re about to start decorating a room, you’ll find there are three key elements to the interior design.
No matter what room you’re decorating, the flooring will always be a key concern. There’re so many different flooring options out there, a quick look on empirefloors.com confirms this. Certain flooring types work wonders in one room but are awful in others. For example, tiled flooring is marvellous in your bathroom but would look terrible in a bedroom.
The key is finding out what flooring suits the style you’re going for. If you want a modern living room, then you should be looking at laminate or vinyl flooring. If you want a very rustic feeling in your kitchen, then a nice hardwood floor would look good. You see that, depending on the look and feel you want, the flooring choice changes.
It’s very easy to mess up the interior design of a room by picking the wrong flooring. You could create a stunning room and then give it an ugly floor and ruin it. It’s like getting dressed up for a night out and looking your best, only to ruin it by putting Crocs on your feet.
The wallpaper in your house will also play a key role in its interior design. There’s every chance that all the rooms in your house will have different wallpaper. In my house, the only time you see the same wallpaper is in the upstairs and downstairs hallways. In the actual rooms, each one is different.
I find that wallpaper is the main thing to set and create the mood of a room. Think about it, when you walk into a room, the wallpaper will surround you from all four sides. It’s something everyone will notice and pay attention too. Again, like with flooring, there are many different styles to choose from. The wallpaper you choose will depend on the room your decorating. For bedrooms, the choice is often left up to whoever stays in the room.
It’s important to note that some rooms don’t even have wallpaper. The bathroom, for example, will most likely have tiles on the walls. So, I guess you can say that the walls, in general, are very important to the interior design of a room.
This is something that you may not realise has a big impact. The thing with the ceiling is that you don’t notice it unless it’s really bad. If you walk into a room with a bad ceiling, you will notice it straight away. Whereas, if you walk into a room with a ceiling that suits the room, you don’t tend to notice it.
In my opinion, this is what makes a good ceiling. It should be there to compliment a room, not take attention away from other parts. You have to make sure the ceiling fits the room, or it can destroy the style.
