One top tip is to get a fireplace installed. Most houses should come with a natural fireplace or at least a place for one. It’s normally underneath where the chimney is situated. Throw some logs down and have a natural fire burn brightly during the cold evenings. Or, you can get an insert and have an electric fireplace that will heat up a room.

Windows

The windows in your house will play a key role in keeping it warm. If your windows are anything less that double glazed, it’s going to be cold. You want thick windows that don’t let any heat in the house. Similarly, the window fixtures need to be strong and make sure they aren’t eroding away. I’d always recommend you shy away from old, wooden, fixtures as they can decay over time.

And of course, keep your windows closed if you want to have a warm home this winter. It’s alright opening them for some fresh air, but don’t leave them open overnight.
