Window Treatment Trends for 2015

Spread the love

Thanks God it’s Friday! How was this week for you? For me it was quite hectic with the ongoing preparation for my Workshops, lot’s of orders coming to my online boutique and writing lots of articles for Architectural Digest. Also I try to find some time for myself )) Today, for example, I am going to the presentation of the book called “Breakfasts at Sotheby’s” by Philip Hook – have you read it yet? Sounds like a must-read for all those who are interested in art.

However, today’s post will not be about art. Recently, I’ve been receiving lots of questions about current and future trends for window treatments.  “What is trendy in 2015?”,  “Are curtains still in fashion?”, “What patterns/prints are popular right now?”  – these are the questions that I’ve received and I decided that’s today’s post will be about them. So here are the window treatment trends that I’ve observed so far:

1. Modern and masculine

Minimalist and masculine window treatments, such as rollers in natural colours (grey, beige, taupe) and plain sheer curtains with minimal hardware are very trendy at the moment:

2. Lace that are not white

We are so much used to white lace – but how about going an unconventional route and choosing black instead of white? Looks quite dramatic, no? Make sure, though, that you choose the ones that have high transparency level, otherwise the room would look and feel too dark.

3. Bottom-up roller shades

This is a wonderful solution to provide an extra privacy to a room (especially if it is located on the ground floor). There are several manufacturers producing them, such as Hunter Douglas, Blindsgalore, Smith Noble. Of course, you can also go a do-it-yourself route and simply mount a conventional shade on the bottom of the window, however in order to avoid headaches and disappointment with the result, I always recommend to go for a ready-made solutions in this case.

4. Natural materials

That’s right – bamboo shades and natural wood blinds will be still popular in 2015-2016.

5. Decorative trimmings

If you want to retain the classy elegance of long curtains, but want them to look a little bit more sophisticated, try decorative trimmings. They can be applied horizontally or vertically – depending on what effect you wish to achieve (e.g. vertical stripes make the ceiling look higher).

6. Ikat

This oriental ornament invented in Indonesia was brought to Europe via the Silk route. Since Marie-Antoinette introduced it to the French court in the 18th century, it has never lost its popularity. Versatile and elegant it may suit almost any interior – from classical to modern.

7. Boho-chic

All things Bohemian are so much in fashion at the moment. If you are a fan, have a look at this traditional Indian window treatment called Toran – it will give your window a very exotic and eye-catching look.

8. Botanicals

Another thing which is super-popular at the moment is botanical prints – practically you can find them everywhere: on wallpapers, cushions, feature walls and of course curtains.

9. Scandinavian

Scandinavian interiors will remain very trendy and we all know that the most popular window treatment in Scandi style is the absence of any treatment.
