Decorate Your Bedroom: Moroccan Style
Over the past years Moroccan inspired interiors became a big trend in the world of interior design. No surprise as this style presumes skillful combination of various patterns and decorative elements, rich colour palette and quirky accessories which make the room look luxurious and one-of-a-kind:
Moroccan style spaces always feel very intimate and cozy – exactly what you need for a bedroom! However to recreate this look is not that easy and you have to consider several rules. In fact, Moroccan interior resembles elaborate exotic dish, where you have to mix a lot of ingredients and if you miss even one, the taste might be totally different.
1. The first ingredient is colour. Moroccan bedrooms are usually decorated in very rich, sometimes dark and intense hues. Colours are generally not bright, instead very saturated and deep. Mostly used are burnt oranges, ochre yellow, turquoise, dark teal and navy blue. Some of the popular colour combos include salmon pink and turquoise, deep blue and orange, dark teal and profound red.
2.The second component is a NOT white ceiling. In fact, in typical Moroccan bedroom ceiling is never white. It can be painted the same colour as walls or one value lighter, it can be decorated with intricate patterns or it can be covered with carved wooden panels. In the result you will get the room which has very intimate and romantic atmosphere.
3. Don’t forget about the floor. The right choice for Moroccan bedroom will be polished concrete, terracotta tiles or stone finishing. Of course, this makes this style more appropriate for a hot climate where the pleasant coolness of the floor is so desired.
4. Think of your walls. If you want to recreate Moroccan style forget such thing as wallpaper. Your best friends now are paint and decorative stucco:
5. Now it is time to add to your space a bit of pattern. When I say “a bit”, I actually mean A LOT of pattern. Think of colorful Moroccan rugs and kilims, tribal cushions, Mediterranean tiles and patchwork blankets. The secret here is to mix and match various patterns by colour, otherwise, the whole space will look a little crazy.
6. The next ingredient is metal. A lot of bronze and silver accessories, such as pendant lights and mirrors are so typical for Moroccan spaces. Metal is never smooth and plain, instead is always pierced and decorated with filigree.
7. More wood! Carved headboards, hand painted or inlayed with mother-of-pearl furniture, arabesque tables, decorative wall panels – these are the elements you can enhance your Moroccan bedroom with.
8. Think of matching bedding. Bed sheets, pillows, blankets – everything should be somehow connected with the general colour scheme of the room.  I am not talking here about getting orange bedding if your walls are painted in orange. It would be enough to put a couple of accent pillows or bedspread in the corresponding colours:
9. Nothing will replace a good rug. Better to go for something authentic – tribal designs, natural wool, handwoven soumaks and kilims.
10. Finally, it is time to add some spices! Decorate your bedroom with quirky accessories – you might think of decorative privacy screens, mirrors, lanterns with colored glass, leather poufs and copper vases.
The last but not least is to fill your room with charming scents of East – cinnamon, sandalwood, vanilla and patchouli.
