For my last interior design project, I need to come up with a solution how to hide large TV in the living room when not in use. Honestly speaking I completely support the client’s desire as I don’t like when TV automatically becomes a focal point in the room, so whenever possible I prefer to conceal it.  Also, when visible, television often tempts us to switch it on and we stop communicating with each other as we are completely absorbed by the picture on the screen. Lastly, in certain interior styles this achievement of civilization looks completely out of place, especially it refers to historical styles, such as baroque, rococo, neo-classicism, etc.
Now back to my project: I was looking for some creative ideas and discovered several very interesting ways of hiding TV within home decor. Here are some of them:

First of all, I found several beautiful furniture pieces, specifically designed to hide media equipment. For example, this stunning entertainment cabinet from Horchow, which I believe will embellish any space:

Or this luxurious TV unit from Rugiano:

Another way to disguise television is to involve the engineering thought. For example, you can fix TV behind the sliding decorative panel:

Or even use an Artwork for that purpose:

You can actually transform the whole wall into a sliding fixture:

Another way to camouflage  TV is to have a motorized tapestry hung over it. With the help of remote control you can roll it up whenever you want to watch TV:

By installing a special drop system you can hide TV inside the ceiling or floor:

You can also buy a mirrored TV which looks exactly like a normal mirror when switched off:

I also like the idea of camouflaging TV by placing a group of artwork in the same width and frames as the television:

Regardless which option you like, the primary principles you should always think of are the ergonomics and comfort. Many people are so obsessed with the idea of beautifully incorporating TV in interior design that completely neglects them. Thus, one of the popular places for putting TV is above the mantelpiece. However, for non-strenuous watching the center of the screen should be on the eye-level (approximately 1 meter above the floor) with a distance of 3-4 diagonals from the viewer. If you have to raise or (even worse!) to turn your head to see the screen, strong headache after watching a movie is guaranteed:

Now I want to hear your opinion: first of all, do you prefer to keep TV visible or to conceal it? If the last one, how do you do it?
