Yesterday was my birthday and I decided to spend it doing my most favorite pastime – painting. I had this vintage suitcase, which serves me as a bedside table.  It had a very shabby look, many people like it as it is, but I wanted to transform into something else:

I am a big fan of paisley ornament and I thought it will be interesting to use it for my suitcase decoration. I also had this amazing hand painted mirror and I decided to use similar hues to make all items in the room corresponding:

Here is my toolset:

1) Acrylic paints

2) Brushes of different sizes

3) Pencil

4) Acrylic Varnish

5) Cup of coffee

First of all, I cleaned the surface of a suitcase from dust and dirt. Then I started to draw ornament with pencil first. When this was done I applied the first coat of paint:

After each coat was dry I applied the next one. The last touch was to cover everything with special varnish which would preserve the paint and also protect it from dust. Finally, after several hours of meticulous work, the project was done:

In the result my suitcase has got this very ethnic look.

By the way, if you like Indian inspired decor I have on sale in my boutique this beautiful hand-embroidered decorative panel from Sri Lanka:

And amazing arabesque side table from India, which I completely adore:
