Hunting Art in Tbilisi

Spread the love

What an amazing weekend we spent  in Tbilisi! This wasn’t our first trip there, but very special one. It was timed to coincide with our first wedding anniversary and it was full of pleasant surprises. I start with a fantastic present which I got from my husband:

We acquired this table from the art shop which is called Vetro Vario. It is made like a small art cafe, where you will be offered wonderful coffee or refreshing sangria, enjoy contemplating beautiful art pieces and talk with the owner about Georgian art. There are not many objects there, but all of them are carefully selected according to the refined taste of the owner. Here are some examples of what you can find:

This wrought iron hand is possible to use not only as wall art, but also for practical purposes – hanging bags, scarves or necklaces.

Love this hand painted watering can! I actually want to try to make something similar myself.

After enjoying this wonderful shop we headed  to our hotel. This time we stayed in beautiful Betsy’s Hotel which belongs to an American couple. It is a boutique design hotel with very few rooms, outdoor swimming pool and stylish atmosphere. The specialty of this hotel are marvellous oriental rugs which are placed everywhere – in guest rooms, lobby, dining area. It creates such a warm and cozy feel:

One thing which caught my attention was a fabulous coffee table in our room:

The lobby of the hotel: the walls are painted in very intense and bright red, which looks very unexpected and cool especially in combination with black and white tiled floor. Large oriental rug and paintings of Georgian artists on the walls complete the look.

This is how an idea came to make a same kind table myself. I have seen plenty of similar dishes on a flea market in Armenia:

It is made of large oriental copper dish standing on the carved wooden legs. At a closer look it came out that dish can be easily removed and it is not even attached to the base: its own heavy weight prevents it from moving.

Now the question is how to make table legs or what to use instead of them? Any suggestions?
